      Introduction to Yoga $40/4 classes A gentle introduction to the stretching, strengthening, breathing and relaxation exercises of Yoga. This class will give you the basic building blocks of a yoga practice. Tuesdays, Sept 12 - Oct 3 (Danielle) 6pm Saturdays, Oct 28 - Nov 18 (Max) 6pm Fundamentals of Ashtanga Yoga      $40/4 weeks  This series of classes is designed to introduce the practitioner to the basic structure and flow of yoga postures in the Ashtanga tradition. Two instructors will be present to provide individual attention and to ensure a safe and healthy practice. Ashtanga Staff Tuesdays, Oct 10-31       6pm Ashtanga Vinyasa Workshop        $30 In ashtanga the counted vinyasa is important in keeping a rhythm and make the movements efficient. In this class we will spend some time reviewing the entering into, being in and exiting each asana. In Mysore there is often some time spent learning the count in Sanskrit , a call and response from one to thirty.  Sometime is also spent  in the call and response of the names of postures. Matthew will spend time talking about these elements and then proceed to leading a counted class. Matthew Lessard (Matthew Lessard was introduced to Ashtanga practice by Diane Lagadec in 1998. He made his first trip to india in 2001 where he completed primary series and began intermediate under the watchful eyes of Sri K Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath. He has continued to visit Mysore and study with Sharath whenever possible).   Sunday, Oct 22          1pm My Aching Feet to Happy Feet: Yoga Therapeutics Workshop  $40     From the ground up, our feet support us all day!  Show those feet some love! In this workshop, we will assess walking patterns, foot alignment , create a blueprint of the foot and receive a mini-foot massages will be offered! Come and learn self-healing techniques and best yoga practices for maintaining foot health and relieving the pain of bunions, plantar fasciitis, hammers toes and more! You will be given a tool kit with instructions and items to help you at home with your foot are. Led by Bonni-Lynne Sandler, Certified Yoga Therapist, Yoga Instructor and Bodyworker Saturday Sept 16        3-5pm An Afternoon of Yoga for Kids    $15 This afternoon class will offer kids (7 years and older) a chance to stretch out and relax. It is being offered at the same time as the Restorative Yoga class so that both you and your kids can have a relaxing afternoon! Those new to yoga are welcomed. Yoga instructor, Kendra Tansey will lead the class through a traditional yoga session, relaxation and a quiet activity. Sunday, Sept 17    1-3pm An Afternoon of Restorative Yoga    $25/class                          Restorative yoga has been called “the antidote to stress.”  This form of yoga consists of supported poses that lead to deep relaxation and profound openings.  By relaxing deeply into each of the poses physiological changes occur that are beneficial to health and that can reduce the effects of stress related diseases. No yoga experience is necessary.     Pam McGoodwin.                                                                            Sunday, Sept 17 1-3 pm Restorative Yoga with Reiki $35/ class Need a break from the hectic pace of life? We hear you! This workshop will combine the best of two worlds- a series of Restorative Yoga Poses with the application of Reiki healing energy to enhance relaxation and to bring you to a deeply meditative space. Led by our Yoga  and Reiki staff. Saturday, Dec 30      1pm Yoga for Depression        $40 When Daylight Savings ends, we often.we often feel depleted of energy. It is also a common time for SAD (seasonal affected disorder), depression and anxiety to set in. This workshop, taught by Robyn Parets, will combine lecture, experiential movement and breath work. The specific pranayama techniques, flow sequences, and posture holds will help show you how to lift your spirits. This workshop is geared to everyone as it offers tools to both help yourself and/or those you love and care about. Some knowledge of the chakras, basic yoga philosophy and pranayama is helpful but not necessary. We hope you will join us! Saturday, Dec 2    2-5 pm   Yoga Sutra Discussion $10 The Yoga Sutras form the basis of classical yoga; they provide the philosophy behind the practice and are a necessity for any serious student of yoga. Study of the Yoga Sutras will help deepen your personal practice and make your teaching more informed. To prepare for this class please read and be prepared to discuss any Sutra in Book 1 or Book 2. In these ancient Yoga Sutras, Patanjali lays out a path for those who wish to “still the mind”. His aphorisms are practical statements of methods for attaining this stillness. He also explains the 8 steps of classical yoga, the various paths of yoga and more. This class will help deepen and broaden your knowledge of Yoga. In this class you will learn how to adapt traditional yoga poses to a chair and bring the benefits of yoga, pranayama and meditation to those who would not be able to participate in a regular Yoga class. Diane Friday, Oct 20       7:30pm Tai Chi                                                                Originating in China, Tai Chi is a graceful form of martial art that today is practiced primarily for its health benefits, which includes relief from stress and anxiety, increased flexibility and coordination. It is often referred to as "Meditation in Motion" as it works toward harmonizing mind, body and spirit. It is based on the concept of "chi"- the life force that flows thru the body that at  times can be blocked. In Chinese Medicine it is believed that illness can arise from such blockages. Tai Chi is recognized as one of the means for releasing the free flow of chi within us.Taught by Edward Roselli, Certified Tai Chi and Kung Fu Teacher. Please note: Beginners are welcomed to join at any time.                                                  Wednesdays at 10:30 am  Introduction to Tai Chi $15  In a traditional Tai Chi class students follow along and mimic the moves of an instructor and just pick up what they can without the pressures of right or wrong. Saturday, Dec 16       7p   Middle Eastern Belly Dance with Amar Gamal      Bellydance is one of the oldest forms of dance having roots in goddess rituals, childbirth preparation and social celebrations. It’s an expressive art form that celebrates the feminine body through  its uniquely designed movements. The movements are characterized by intricate body isolations with a main emphasis on the hips and torso. However, the entire body gets a full low impact workout.  The movements will help stretch and tone your body, increase your stamina, body control and awareness. Bellydance is for all ages, body shapes and cultural backgrounds. Wear comfortable clothing, bare feet and a hip scarf. Come celebrate this beautiful feminine art form in a supportive and fun atmosphere! In a simple and fun format students will learn break-downs of some of the basic movements. We then put them together each week to create a short and fun choreography.                                                                     Classes Saturdays, Sept 16-Oct 7, 11:30-12:30pm                                                                                  Polishing the Basics   Bellydance Course   Designed for students who have taken the Basic Beginner Course 3 or more times and want to continue learning. We will review and polish the basics, add new variations to them and learn the next series of movements. This course is also great for those more experienced students wanting to clean up the basics.   Continuing Bellydance Course     Designed for students who have taken the Basic Beginner and Polishing the Basics Courses 3 or more times. Basic moves will be layered to other movements, new steps will be introduced adding them all together in step combinations. Detail to technique and posture will be highly emphasized. Zills (finger cymbals) will be introduced.
