      Introduction to Yoga $40/4 classes A gentle introduction to the stretching, strengthening, breathing and relaxation exercises of Yoga. This class will give you the basic building blocks of a yoga practice. Tuesdays, Mar 6-27(Brianna Rezendes) 6pm Fridays, Jan 19-Feb 9 (Monica Tavares) 6pm Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga        $40/4 weeks In this Winter workshop you will be introduced to the basic structure and flow of yoga postures in the Ashtanga tradition. In the first class (Sat, 2/11, 11am) you will learn part of the Ashtanga Series of Asanas. In the second class (Sat, 2/17, 7am) you will practice what you learned and be able to observe a Mysore class. In the third class (Sat, 2/24, 11am) you will learn more of the Ashtanga Series of asanas. In the last class (Sat, 3/3, 7am) you will be invited to practice in a Led Ashtanga class. Ashtanga Staff Tuesdays, Apr 3-24      6pm A Week of Traditional Mysore Ashtanga Yoga   $85  Although there are many approaches to learning the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga System, a daily self practice is the most effective. This approach is known as "Mysore Style": the model taught by Sri K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. The student is taught very gradually then expected to practice and refine what they have learned through consistent and purposeful repetition of the technique.A guided class is offered to the students to help them achieve an efficient and correct understanding of the movements: of getting into , being in , and leaving the postures.A guided class begins and ends this week of self practice and allows students a chance to flow through their practice without getting stuck on the difficult or the enjoyable. This practice is designed for each student to do as much or as little as they choose to do.  Zoe Kelliher Tuesdays, Jan 9-30    6pm Yoga for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)  MYTT ONLY   $35 In this class you will learn the theories and techniques for working with Yoga students who are coping with symptoms of PTSD. The class will include an understanding of the neurobiology of Trauma and an experiential component. Elaine Fillion-Crouse, LICSW has worked with clients dealing with PTSD for over 25 years.Trained in many cutting edge trauma treatment modalities, including Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Elaine also teaches “Trauma, Treatment and Recovery” in the Social Work MSW Program at Bridgewater State University. Saturday, March 10         1-4p Psychology of Yoga -Part 1        $25 A deep and authentic study and practice of Yoga needs to include knowledge of Yoga psychology. Using a basic text, Yoga and Psychotherapy by Swami Rama as a foundation, students will learn the basis for the fundamental concepts and practices regarding Yoga’s concept of the Self. Traditional western schools of psychology, including Transpersonal Psychology, will be discussed and a development model focusing on the Yoga Sheaths will be explored. The class includes lecture, discussion, and practices. Nancy Brady Cunningham Saturday, March 24    1-3pm Soleful Wisdom: Yoga for Your Feet    $25 Are you a hiker, runner, in love with high heels, or looking for better balance in your asana practice? They may be the farthest thing from your mind however, maintaining healthy feet will help keep your entire body in better condition. In this workshop we will work on strengthening and stretching to improve overall foot health and learn to prevent or relieve pain from bunions, hammertoes and plantar fasciitis. (Please bring a yoga strap or belt) Denise Spear Saturday, April 28    1-3p Off The Wall Yoga   $25 Learn how to use the wall as the ultimate prop! This class will show you how to work on classical yoga postures, while paying attention to alignment and safety, with the support of a wall. . Nancy Brady Cunningham Sunday, March 25      1-3p Psychology of Yoga Part 2        $25 This class concentrates on the Chakras and how they provide an expanded developmental model in conjunction with the Yoga Sheaths to think about and experience the concept of the Self in Yoga Psychology. Lecture and discussion as well as concentrations, meditation, mantra, breath work and imagery are used to work with the chakras to develop awareness regarding the rich template they provide for our unfolding consciousness. Susan Nisenbaum-Becker Saturday, Jan 27           1pm   An Afternoon of Yoga for Kids    $15 This afternoon class will offer kids (7 years and older) a chance to stretch out and relax. It is being offered at the same time as the Restorative Yoga class so that both you and your kids can have a relaxing afternoon! Those new to yoga are welcomed. Yoga instructor, Kendra Tansey will lead the class through a traditional yoga session, relaxation and a quiet activity. Sunday, Feb 4   1-3pm An Afternoon of Restorative Yoga    $25                                     Restorative yoga has been called “the antidote to stress.”  This form of yoga consists of supported poses that lead to deep relaxation and profound openings.  By relaxing deeply into each of the poses physiological changes occur that are beneficial to health and that can reduce the effects of stress related diseases. No yoga experience is necessary.     Pam McGoodwin.                                                                            Sunday, Feb 4 1-3 pm Slow Flow Vinyasa Series      $40/4classes These days "vinyasa" yoga is all the rage. If you've been wanting give vinyasa yoga a try, now's your chance. Vinyasa, which means linking breath to movement, is simply a form of flowing Hatha yoga. During this four-week series, we will slow down the vinyasa practice, enabling you to experience deeper holds in each posture while working on the body-breath connection. All levels are welcome. Diane Friday, Feb 23           7pm Tai Chi                                                                Originating in China, Tai Chi is a graceful form of martial art that today is practiced primarily for its health benefits, which includes relief from stress and anxiety, increased flexibility and coordination. It is often referred to as "Meditation in Motion" as it works toward harmonizing mind, body and spirit. It is based on the concept of "chi"- the life force that flows thru the body that at  times can be blocked. In Chinese Medicine it is believed that illness can arise from such blockages. Tai Chi is recognized as one of the means for releasing the free flow of chi within us.Taught by Edward Roselli, Certified Tai Chi and Kung Fu Teacher. They return tonight  to share the ancient tradition of call and response chanting of sacred Sanskrit mantras. Saturday, March 10       7pm Kirtan with Shubalananda Donation The singing of kirtan goes back thousands of years in India. Created by ancient rishis from the seed mantras of the Vedas, the sounds are designed to resonate with the chakras. As powerful as it is, kirtan is effortless and incredibly enjoyable! Come and experience this joyful but deep form of practice.  Saturday, Apr 14 7pm Saturday, Nov 11 7pm Barefoot Concert Series A Night of Classical Guitar with Jason Stripinis   cost tba Our Center is proud to host classical guitarist Jason Stripinis for an evening of beautiful guitar music, spanning the years 1534 to 1961.  The program features Renaissance, Baroque and modern music.  In addition to performing with other musicians, Jason studied at Berklee College of Music, the prestigious school that has turned out some of the best  and most accomplished musicians in the country.  Classical guitar is a quite demanding form of music that is specifically written for the nylon string guitar. It requires years of study and practice before the complex compositions can be performed.  Saturday, Apr 28    7p   Middle Eastern Belly Dance with Amar Gamal      Bellydance is one of the oldest forms of dance having roots in goddess rituals, childbirth preparation and social celebrations. It’s an expressive art form that celebrates the feminine body through  its uniquely designed movements. The movements are characterized by intricate body isolations with a main emphasis on the hips and torso. However, the entire body gets a full low impact workout.  The movements will help stretch and tone your body, increase your stamina, body control and awareness. Bellydance is for all ages, body shapes and cultural backgrounds. Wear comfortable clothing, bare feet and a hip scarf. Come celebrate this beautiful feminine art form in a supportive and fun atmosphere! We will review and polish the basics, add new variations to them and learn the next series of movements. This course is also great for those more experienced students wanting to clean up the basics.   Continuing Bellydance Course     Designed for students who have taken the Basic Beginner and Polishing the Basics Courses 3 or more times. Basic moves will be layered to other movements, new steps will be introduced adding them all together in step combinations. Detail to technique and posture will be highly emphasized. Zills (finger cymbals) will be introduced.
